West Bengal Government has announced to set up Export Mart called Hexpo with an estimated cost of Rs10 crore in Nadia district.
State Government has ensured to contribute Rs7 crore while weavers and co-operative societies have been asked to amass Rs50 lakh and the rest will be invested by Central Government.
When this mart will start functioning fully, weavers from Fulia, Santipur and Nabadwip will get direct access of foreign markets, Sabhadhipati of Nadia Zilla Parishad, Rama Biswas stated.
Several exporters have been advising weavers to get away from tangail sarees and try to fulfill the need of customers abroad.
It is healthy sign that domestic products demand have been rising in foreign market but weavers are not able to reap the benefit fully as middlemen (mahajans) charge high interest on loan, informed Biswas.
This mart will have facilities such as export house, display room, library, video conference hall, vegetable dyeing unit, affluent treatment plant for maintaining pollution and design and training centres, informed Rajesh Pandey, District Magistrate.
He also added that Government has announced the scheme Assistance to States for developing Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities in March 2002 to boost exports.
