After 20 years the gallery is still in his home; with the help of another fellow Singaporean, Vester Yong, the Gallery has expanded and is now filled with ever-changing treasures, and still provides funds for philanthropic projects.
Percy's love of textiles and his background in design also led him to create new traditions in an old art. On a wintry morning in January 1997, while sitting in a rice hut in the padi fields, he came up with the idea of combining two ancient weaving techniques into one. He went on to explore the use of a fresh and non-traditional palette of colours and new patterns to give a modern look.
With great excitement, he found three experienced weavers from his village and together they began to create beautiful pieces of cloth using these contemporary colours and original designs. Today, a group of nearly forty women and men from Isan work together in this weaving project giving new life to traditional threads.
Their skills in dyeing and weaving together with Percy's imaginative use of colour and design have created fabulous textiles that have caught the eye of many people, internationally and in Singapore.
Textile Society of Hong Kong (TSHK) announce that Percy will give a presentation highlighting his adventures and explaining his work with the weaving cooperative in Isan.
Some of his latest woven silk creations will also be on display and for sale.
