Bush administration's decision to force anti-dumping monitoring system on textiles and apparel imported from Vietnam has been opposed by US retailers along with Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS).

Erik Autor, Vice President and Foreign Trade Counsel for National Retail Federation, expressed anger and said traders felt being sold out due to anti-dumping. US retailers are very disturbed by White House's move.

Vietnam will be granted Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) due to anti-dumping monitoring, which will enable its accession to World Trade Organization (WTO). Government fails to understand the harmful consequences of this agreement later.

Spokesman for US Trade Representative's Office, Steve Norton responded to trader's concerns on the deal by saying that Government would cooperate with important parties in setting up a strong and just monitoring system.

VITAS Chairman Le Quoc An expressed worry about US's imposition of monitoring system on Vietnamese textiles and apparel, which disregarded WTO rules and discriminated against the country. He added that US had not conducted an official discussion with the Vietnamese Government on this issue.

Le Quoc described the deal to be worse than a quota as it would enable US to impose heavy taxes on Vietnamese goods at any time, restricting imports. He said there was a probability of US retailers canceling import orders in Vietnam.
