Eid shopping spree leads to price hike

The Eid shopping season is on the rise as shoppers make a beeline to buy various goods ranging from clothes to footwear.

In the middle of Ramazan, shopping centres and Eid Special Bazaars of the city are enjoying a big rush of customers from Iftar till late night.

Taking advantage of the festival rush, shopkeepers make no bones about overcharging for various products, particularly clothing and footwear.

According to small traders, customers are in the habit of bargaining on every item, even when the shopkeepers demand reasonable prices. This leaves the small traders with no option but to seek prices keeping higher margin on the goods.

Shoes which earlier cost Rs400, are now being sold at Rs1,000 at the same shop and the bargaining brings it down only to Rs700.

Another effect of the festival rush is that most of the shopkeepers are not able to entertain the regular customers in the same way as they did in off-season.
