Agriculture report has stated that cotton production in Louisiana is anticipated to increase greatly with farmers expecting record yields.

As per October 1, 2006 conditions, Louisiana farmers are expecting production of 1.25 million cotton bales, which will be the highest since 1996 produce of 1.29 million bales.

Louisiana branch of National Agricultural Statistics Service, under USDA, informed that farmers are expecting average yield of 968 pounds per acre with harvesting in this region almost complete.

Gary Raines, Manager of Economics and Analysis, Cotton Inc., said cotton rates have decreased to only 48 cents per pound from their climax in August 2006. He added production in US will be meeting item demands soon.

US Department of Agriculture has predicted low production of 20.7 million bales in the country as against last year's 23.9 million bales. There is anticipation of lesser crops by farmers in California, Georgia, Mississippi and drought affected Texas, which are big cotton producers.
