Yelp Inc, a leading urban city guide and popular local review site, announced the launch of their highly anticipated Yelp Apparel line. The new line will be available online and is also available in select retail boutiques in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Seattle.
"Yelp is all about helping people find the best local businesses and as we've evolved it's become very clear that Yelp is weaving its way into the fabric of urban culture," said Jeremy Stoppelman, co-founder and chief executive officer, Yelp Inc. "We have an exceptionally talented creative team who believes in bringing our fun and unabashed brand to life, and this project is yet another great example of their keen execution."
The launch of Yelp Apparel kicks off with the introduction of two active wear classics for women: the hot brief and a Milton Glaser inspired "I heart Yelp" tank top, both in Yelp's signature crimson red. The line exudes the smart and brassy street vibe that is Yelp, and is a natural extension of the very social and active lifestyle of Yelp.com users.
"If you think that Yelp is simply the ultimate urban guide, you'd be missing an important part of the experience. Yelp is about everyday living," said Nish Nadaraja, marketing director for Yelp. "The minute I heard a Yelp member quip 'I yelp, therefore I am,' I knew we were onto to something that runs much deeper than a website; we're creating a new way to experience city life."
As part of the launch marketing campaign, Yelp will be promoting the store on its site and in select boutiques in major metros throughout the nation. The ads and the online store gallery feature Yelp Real Models; Yelp users who volunteered to model the new line.
The Yelp Apparel collection will focus on introducing a small number of seasonal items for men and women, in limited runs. Current plans include the introduction of Yelp varsity sweaters, thermals, hand muffs, sweatbands, protective bus pass and smartphone cases and a potential his/hers fragrance line.
