State Government is primed to welcome back those home-furnishing and textile companies that set up businesses in countries like Cambodia, Vietnam and China.

Sources explain that these manufacturers have realized that their own country can offer much more competitiveness and opportunities than the nations they ventured into for cheaper labour.

Chief Minister or Mentri Besar, Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman told the press “They now realise it is not competitive anymore to operate outside Malaysia. They also know that especially Johor, is still the best place for them to operate furniture or textile factories.”

Statistics reveal foreign investment of over RM5 billion last year while the figure is expected to nearly double this year.

He stresses complete faith in Prime Minister Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and hit back at Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying that the PM who was also the Finance Minister worked aggressively and managed to cut down Government cost from 5.4 to 3.5 percent in past couple of years.

Besides, the growth has been maintained at around 5 percent.

Mentri Besar quoted, “I think it was not proper for Dr Mahathir to say the economy was weak now.”
