Nepal's biggest apparel exporter Cotton Comfort has succumbed to excessive interference by Maoist trade union and labourers related to other trade unions associated with political parties offering resistance, leading to its abrupt closure.
Cotton Comfort responsible for 18 percent of net garment exports of the country will not be able to satisfy delivery demands on time any longer, sources informed.
In the past months, entrepreneurs of the country have been troubled by the labour stir which has disturbed delivery of goods on time. They have already approached the Government and political parties for sorting out their problems.
Uday Raj Pandey, General Secretary, Garment Association of Nepal (GAN), stated that entrepreneurs were not given justice. Cotton Comfort's closure has brought down the number of functional apparel industries to only nine.
He added that the readymade garment sector, which is already suffering from crisis due to external and internal pressures and competition post-quotas era, will be severely affected by this closure.
