Textile production in the country had upturned during previous 3-4 years. Net production made a new record in August 2006, but it has been steady from then onwards.

Output in October 2006 went up 4.9 percent compared to last year, but it was the lowest since July. Expanding local retail industry has brought about vigorous growth in textiles.

Retail sale of textiles and garments in shopping malls during September rose 22.4 percent compared to last year. Net September sales were twice than that of September 2003.

Sale of textile goods in supermarkets slowed down in the same month, with 11.8 percent growth from same period last year. This is the lowest monthly year-on-year increase since August 2005.
