Textile industry had been witnessing sluggish business for over a long time, showing slight signs of improvement in past six months.
However, apparel sector has provided the much needed boost to cotton industry, with production soaring almost 32 percent in October 2006 year-on-year levels.
While monthly cotton yarn output reached 72.6 on 2000=100 Index, representing 4 percent growth as compared to the same month last year, weaving production registered 3.3 percent rise.
Cotton consumption has also recovered, attracted steadily rising demand over past several months.
