As result of significant drop in exports to the US, almost 41000 textile workers in Duty-Free Zones were rendered jobless.

Textile industry had a strained 2006, with almost 4.5 percent decline in zone placements, creating only 147,959 as against 154,781.

Meanwhile, exports are expected to reach around US $4.44 billion by the end of December 2006, representing year-on-year fall 5 percent.
