French-Chinese clothing brands collide head-on

French clothing industry has expressed concern at the way in which good quality Chinese brands with inexpensive price tags are occupying a bigger market share in France.

However, this trend is not without cause. In recent years, French clothing brands, including some well-known ones, have occupied nearly 40 percent of China's market share.

In order to beat Chinese brands in their home turf and revive French clothing sector, the French Textile Industry League is contemplating giving the 'Made in France' label to their goods.

Insiders feel that while French clothing brands were integrating oriental gentleness and western romance in order to serve Chinese consumers, Chinese clothing manufacturers were adding technology content in order to compete with French goods.
