Gov. Mike Easley announced that Frontier Spinning Mills will expand one of its Lee County facilities, creating 42 jobs and investing $20 million during the next three years. The announcement was made possible in part by a $40,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.

“Frontier Spinning Mills' decision to expand its operations in North Carolina is a reflection of our determination to help our traditional industries thrive and compete in the global economy,” Easley said.

Frontier Spinning Mills employs more than 1,700 people at nine plants in four states, including 1,500 in North Carolina facilities in Mayodan and Stoneville and two in Sanford. The company manufactures cotton and cotton-blended yarns for the textile fabric industry.

“We are pleased to announce plans to expand one of our facilities in Sanford and Lee County,” said George Perkins, CEO of Frontier Spinning Mills. “The state and local communities have been very supportive of our company and its growth throughout the years. This support has helped Frontier make investments and create jobs that have been so meaningful to this area and across the state. Our company's success is also a tribute to its valued employees and customers.”

“This is another example of how our state's policies to help companies expand, work to create more jobs in our communities,” said state Rep. Jimmy Love (D-Lee).

“In the state Senate, we have worked hard to help local communities partner with state agencies so companies can grow,” said state Sen. Bob Atwater (D-Orange, Lee). “I will continue to support policies that make our state attractive to expanding businesses. I especially appreciate Mr. Perkins having the farsightedness to continue to invest in this community.”
