Despite the fact that the production value of Shishi City's textile and clothing industry was up 24.4 percent and stood at 10.46 billion yuan in the first seven months of 2007, Taiwan enterprises incurred heavy losses.

Pointing out reasons for this phenomenon, experts said that Taiwan textile enterprises, which account for 60 percent of Taiwan enterprises in Shishi, follow a faulty marketing method whereby they focus only on the Taiwan market.

They said that the single market method was ruining their chances of expanding business in other textile marts. Ignoring a market-oriented strategy and focusing on technology alone has also hampered the chances of Taiwan clothing enterprises to a large extent.

The other reason could be the poor state of Taiwan economy, which has lead to a fall in people's purchasing power. Many clothing shops have shut down because of this.
