Puducherry State Weavers Cooperative (PONTEX) workers have reacted strongly to the remarks made by the Welfare Minister M Kandasamy at a recent function. The weavers have threatened to barricade Minister's office if he does not apologize within about 10 days.

Reportedly, Kandasamy stated at the event that PONTEX garments were of inferior make. Thus, the Government had decided to purchase saris and shirt materials from open market. These goods are to be distributed among poor during Diwali.

Employees Union President expressed his anger and said that PONTEX had been supplying handloom products to the Government since 1996 and such statements were sheer insults to the organization.

He further stressed that PONTEX had already started manufactured Rs10 crore worth of garments as per Government's standing order for this year's Diwali festival and now they would go waste.
