The dyeing industry of Shaoxing County in Zhejiang Province has greatly supported the local textile industry, especially after adopting energy-saving measures and reducing the amount of pollutants released into the atmosphere.

According to statistics, the cloth output of Shaoxing County in 2006 was 12.5 billion meters, accounting for one-fourth of the total fabric output of the country.

In recent years, dyeing industry in Shaoxing has imported many advanced equipments. For example, 77 percent of printing equipments are imported from Switzerland, Japan and other countries, 70 percent of the heat-setting machines are imported from Korea, Germany and other nations.

The dyeing industry not only processes cloth for local textile industry but also processes over 10 billion meter of cloth for other cities each year.

Energy cost, like that of water, electricity and coal, accounts for about 40 percent of the total cost of printing and dyeing industry. This results in greater volumes of pollutants being emitted into the atmosphere.

However, this emission has reduced to a large extent after Government introduced a slew of policies to encourage enterprises to save energy. For instance, by the end of 2006, the emission of pollutants reduced by 90 percent.
