Experts believe that the India-Canada Tax Treaty needs to be re-assessed and modernized in order to enhance trade and investment between these two countries.
When the treaty was being negotiated several decades back, India was still a developing country. Today, however, situations have remarkably changed. Not only has there been an increase in trade and investment between the two countries, India is itself evolving to become a developed country.
Under these changed circumstances it has become crucially evident that the treaty must undergo revision.
A good number of trade and investment barriers still needs to be resolved by means of mutual understanding and cooperation.
