In recent years, the textile industry has started paying heed to the development of materials which concern the safety and health of its consumers. This segment of business, presently, has a sale of 100 billion with around 10 percent growth each year.
However, this particular sector is encountering some problems in its path of development. Few companies exaggerate functions of their products like some mattress and health care underwear are advertised as cure-alls, which are incorrect. Another dilemma is disorganized pricing system. The price for a health care pillow may vary from 30 to 1000 yuan.
Further predicament for the industry is the existence of low quality products. It lacks specific standards and united guidelines, which leads to insufficient effective regulations and administrative methods.
China Health Care Association (CHCA) has worked hard to set up a standard for health care textile in December, 2005. These standards only regulate the Far Infrared, antibacterial and magnetic functions of the fabrics.
Presently, the organization has taken a decision that the eligible products are to be sold with anti-counterfeiting labels on the packages, which will be valid for three years.
