This Christmas home furnishings sales find new path

This year, during Christmas period, East and West districts of San Fernando, one of the important cities of Trinidad & Tobago, are experiencing almost 10 percent rise in sales compared to last year.
The emergence of new housing complexes, in the region, has helped in the surge of home furnishings sale. Presently, people are keen on purchase curtain panels. Even, lesser number are buying fabric for sewing clothes, as ready-to-wear garments are catching up fast among the younger generation.
Experts say that program like Community Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (CEPEP) and Urban Relief Programme (URP) have helped local people to attain a higher spending power as well as restored the balance in the market. This has happened after many years since the closure of Caroni (1975) Ltd, the state owned sugar factory.
This year, Christmas shopping was at its peak over the weekend. Sale of groceries, presents and decorations has picked up this time compared to previous years.
