Cotton import prices mark climbing trend

The cotton import price in the period from January 3 to 12 has seen a continuous rise at almost all the markets across the world, reports the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This has created a huge confusion among the manufacturers.

According to available statistics, cotton rates in that week rose from US $1,340 to $1,540 each ton. In which the price from India was quoted at $1,423 per ton, up by 1.6 percent from previous week and by almost 7 percent from September 2007.

On the same line, cotton prices in Tanzania, during the first two weeks of January, reached at its highest level, at $1,540 per ton, soaring 2 percent over previous week.

The prices from Burkina Faso and Nigeria were quoted at $1,523 and $1,370 each ton respectively.
