Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela laid clear emphasis on textile industry when he said that the industry contributes 14 percent of the nation's total industrial production and four per cent of the GDP.

He stated this yesterday, after the inauguration of the XIIth Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) at Sanpada in Navi Mumbai.

Stating that the apparel industry by 2010 would achieve US $85 billion worth of trade, further 12 million new jobs would come up requiring addiionally 1.15 million supervisors and 6.62 million skilled workers.

This is where the ATDC would play a vital role in providing skilled workers for the textile and apparel industry.

As harbingers of industry talent and skills, ATDCs are functioning under the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) in several cities of India offering skilled manpower to the readymade garment industry.
