Domestic viscose staple fibre (VSF) market remained relatively deserted in June 2008; sales saw almost no improvement and prices also were sluggish.

However, decreasing rate of VSF market prices narrowed. Price decline of the whole month was more than 1,000 yuan per ton.

As of June 30, mainstream market price of domestic VSF fell to 15,450 yuan per ton, down 1,050 yuan per ton from the end of the previous month. This is evidently smaller than the plunge of nearly 2,000 yuan in the previous two months.

In the first half of June, offers from manufacturers continued to decrease by 800-1,000 yuan per ton, but in second half of the month, offers for 1.5 D VSF were basically stable.

By the end of the month, offers from major producers ranged between 15800-16000 yuan per ton. For instance, quotations from Zhejiang Fu Li Da and Xinxiang Chemical Fiber were steady between 15800-15900 yuan per ton.

On the whole, prices of some colored VSF varieties declined to around 23500-23600 yuan per ton. While rate of high-grade white viscose 1.5D variety fell to 17500-17600 yuan per ton, 1.2 D * 38mm price was recorded between 16200-16300 yuan per ton.
