Downstream market demand for benzene still weak

On Wednesday, Asian Benzene rose slightly due to an increase in crude oil prices overnight. FOB Korea closed at US $443.00-444.00 per ton and Southeast Asia closed at $425.50-426.50 per ton, both up $4.25 per ton.

Strong Asian benchmark and higher price of styrene gave some support to China's domestic benzene spot market. The spread between seller and buyer widened to $30 per ton in China's market and CFR ranged between $440 and $470 per ton.

In trading area, GS Caltex offered Benzene at $430 per ton for April delivery. Trammochem finally closed a deal at $444 per ton. Even though the basic price of pure benzene has been rising, demand in downstream markets is still weak.
