The year 2009 will be a watershed year for the Peruvian alpaca fibre, textiles and clothing sector. By the second half of 2009, alpaca clothing will be on its way to a European fashion capital to grace the studios of a globally renowned fashion designer.
The fashion house of well-known designer Versace will feature clothing produced by the entrepreneurs from the city of Puno in Peru on the request and order received from Brazilian fashion designer Salvatore Laureano.
On a visit to Puno, Salvatore was turned on by the beautiful alpaca fabrics and clothing and there and then placed an order for 200 pieces of clothing to be exported to Italy on completion of the order.
The workers received specialized training to work on the order since till date they never have had exposure to stitching designer wear clothing
