According to the report of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to May, above scale enterprises of nationwide industries realized a total profit of 850.2 billion Yuan, down 22.9 percent year-on-year.
Among 39 major sectors, 19 sectors witnessed a decrease in profits, but some industries still managed to maintain growth, while one sector did a turnaround from losses in 2008 to profits in 2009.
Food industry achieved a 17.1 percent increase in profits while the textile, garment and footwear manufacturing industries grew by 16.6 percent and ferrous metal smelting sector recorded a smart turnaround.
