The 2010 football World Cup being held in South Africa is going green with a vengeance, what with the fabled soccer stars wearing their team jerseys made from recycled plastic bottles, to show they care about the environment.

These plastic bottles otherwise would have been consigned to landfills which increases environmental degradation of our earth. Around nine teams are wearing these eco-friendly jerseys.

Each of the jerseys is manufactured from around 8-9 recycled plastic bottles and considering that each team has sent a strong 23-member contingent, the amount of plastic bottles which have been saved from sending to the landfills is huge.
