Textile Association of India Chairman M S Mathivanan reported that the heavy rains had adversely affected the textile production in Nammakal District.

The rain hit the drying process of colour yarn production at Pallipalayam and Komarapalayam.

This affected the manufacture of check and export design cloth. The total loss had been estimated at Rs 30 crore.

Mr Mathivanan also said that 40' count yarn prices had risen by about 15 per cent in the last one month.

He called for the Centre's intervention for bringing price stability.

He suggested that the yarn should be brought under the Essential Commodities Act to control prices.

Even in Karur, the heavy floods have had worse impact on textile exports.

There are over one lakh skilled and unskilled workers here.

The industry, which is famous for its timely deliveries to other countries, is now plagued with serious problems.

Adding to the inconvenience the rain has ruined the roads and infrastructure.
