Bangladesh finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal recently told parliament that the country's inflation rate will come down to a tolerable level after the end of fiscal 2021-22. He said this in a report on implementation, progress and macroeconomic analysis on the second term (July-December) of the current fiscal’s budget placed in parliament.

In the first term of this fiscal, the general inflation rate increased to 6.05 per cent. It was 5.36 per cent in July last year and 5.55 per cent in December 2021, he mentioned.

Kamal said the overall inflation has risen due to the rise of food items and fuel prices in the global market, according to Bangla media reports.

Noting that the collection of income tax and value-added tax (VAT) in revenue earning is promising, the minister said revenue collection will further increase during the period at the end of the current fiscal.
