Bangladesh and Qatar elevated their bilateral relations recently by signing 10 cooperation documents, comprising five agreements and five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) including that for promoting mutual investments, avoidance of double taxation and establishment of a joint business council.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani presided over the signing ceremony.

The signed agreements encompass cooperation in the legal domain, avoidance of double taxation, promotion and safeguarding of mutual investments, establishment of a Joint Business Council (JBC) apart from others even as collaboration between Qatar Ports management Company ‘MAWANI QATAR’ and Bangladesh’s Chittagong Ports Authority (CPA) was a major highlight amongst the MoUs inked.

Following the signing ceremony, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani went to Bangabhaban, where Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin received him.

The visit of the high-level Qatari delegation, led by the emir, was extended at the invitation of Bangladesh’s President and the Prime Minister.

The exchange of these cooperation documents underscored the deepening economic ties between Bangladesh and Qatar, paving the way for enhanced collaboration and shared prosperity.
