Bangladesh’s point-to-point inflation reduced a bit for two consecutive months and stood at 8.91 per cent in October, mainly due to the easing of food inflation after over a decade-high inflation in August. Inflation was 9.1 per cent in September and fell by 0.19 per cent as food inflation dropped from 9.08 per cent in September to 8.5 per cent in October.

However, non-food inflation rose by 0.45 per cent and stood at 9.58 per cent in October from 9.13 per cent in September, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

"As we have said several times earlier, inflation will come down. It declined significantly in October. We are happy that the lower income consumers were relieved," planning minister MA Mannan told a media briefing.

"The rate of wage also increased in October," the minister said, adding, "Rising wage with reducing inflation is a good achievement for the government."

The overall wage index in October increased by 6.91 per cent, which was 6.86 per cent in September, he was quoted as saying by Bangladeshi media reports.
