Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered land to Qatar in special economic zones (SEZs) under construction and sought more help from the latter in the energy sector, particularly in LNG import, when Marri met her in Dhaka.
Momen highlighted trade and investment opportunities in Bangladesh and briefed Marri about the initiatives taken by his government for skill development to meet the growing demand when the latter paid a courtesy call on him.
During a courtesy call on Momen at the State Guest House Padma, Marri mentioned that in the coming days Qatar would like to recruit manpower in those fields, according to a foreign ministry statement. He appreciated the cooperation of Qatar government in supplying LNG to Bangladesh.
In a separate meeting with expatriates welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmad, Marri said Qatar has amended its labour law and foreign workers will now be entitled to equal rights that Qatari workers enjoy, according to Bangladeshi media reports.
Qatar has also created a welfare fund for the workers and in any case the employers fail to pay wages to the workers, they will be paid from the fund.
