China is prepared to enhance synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Tonga's national development strategies, and use the bilateral Enhanced Economic Partnership Agreement as an opportunity to boost trade and investment, Premier Li Qiang recently said.

Li said this while meeting King Tupou VI of Tonga in Beijing.

He called for furthering cooperation in infrastructure construction and industry.

China is willing to import more high-quality agricultural and fishery products from Tonga, and to encourage Chinese enterprises to invest there, Li was cited as saying by a state-controlled media outlet.

Tonga is willing to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in trade, agriculture and fisheries, clean energy, healthcare and disaster prevention and mitigation, King Tupou VI said.
