China's CPI up by 2.5% YoY in Aug 2022, core CPI rises by 0.8% YoY

China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently revealed consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.5 per cent year on year (YoY) in August, while on a monthly basis, it remained stable, reversing the 0.5-per cent rise in July to edge down by 0.1 per cent. Non-food prices rose by 1.7 per cent YoY, lifting the yearly consumer inflation by about 1.38 percentage points.

The core CPI (excluding food and energy prices) rose by 0.8 per cent YoY in August, staying flat from the growth pace logged in July.

The prices of gasoline and diesel reported YoY growths of 20.2 per cent and 21.9 per cent respectively, an official news agency reported.

The country’s producer price index, which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, went up by 2.3 per cent YoY in the month.
