Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the handloom and textiles department to work on making the Indian state a global textile hub and formulate a policy on operating power looms on solar energy. The process for setting up 115 export-oriented textile units at a cost of ₹3,000 crore at the proposed apparel park in Noida would start in June.

The foundation stone of the park will be laid in July. Commercial production at the park is expected to start in September 2025, the department said in a recent presentation to the state’s cabinet.

It revealed that it aims at creating five lakh jobs and self-employment opportunities with an investment of ₹7,500 crore in five years in the sector.

Besides, the department aims at establishing five new apparel and textile parks in public-private partnership (PPP) mode by September 2026, according to Indian media reports. The department is expected to identify land for setting up these parks and issue tender documents by September 2023.

The department also seeks to build handloom clusters under the National Handloom Development Programme and the Micro & Small Enterprises-Cluster Development Programme (MSE CDP) and commission as many as 80 projects by February 2027.

The department has also set a target of coming out with the Textile Policy 2022 by June this year and attract investments worth ₹1,000 crore in five years.
