G20 Summit signals new era for African textile & apparel industry

With the African Union becoming a permanent G** member, Africa’s development agenda now carries greater weight in global decision-making. Issues such as debt relief, fairer trade rules and sustainable industrialisation moved to the forefront of the Johannesburg discussions, signalling the continent’s rising geopolitical influence.

The summit also carried strong symbolic value: grounded in the philosophy of Ubuntu, it highlighted Africa’s shift from being viewed primarily as an aid recipient to being recognised as a key partner in global governance.
