Germany's manufacturing sector saw a 1 per cent decline in new orders in June 2025 compared to May 2025, after seasonal and calendar adjustment. However, orders rose marginally by 0.8 per cent year-on-year, according to provisional data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis)

Excluding large-scale orders, however, June orders were 0.5 per cent higher than the previous month. Over the broader three-month period (Q2 vs Q1), new orders were up 3.1 per cent overall and 0.1 per cent excluding large-scale orders.

Category-wise, new orders for capital goods declined by 5.3 per cent in June 2025 compared to the previous month. In contrast, orders for consumer goods rose by 0.5 per cent, while intermediate goods saw a stronger increase of 6.1 per cent.

In terms of geography, foreign orders declined 3 per cent overall. While demand from the euro area rose 5.2 per cent, non-eurozone orders plunged by 7.8 per cent. Meanwhile, domestic orders rose 2.2 per cent. Destatis said in a release.

Despite the fall in orders, turnover in manufacturing rose 0.9 per cent in June 2025 compared to the previous month. However, it was still 1.2 per cent below the June 2024 level. May 2025 turnover was revised slightly upward to a 1.8 per cent decline (from -1.9 per cent).
