The Indian government has granted an additional one-year transition period for the mandatory online filing of applications for the non-preferential certificate of origin. This extension lasts until December 31, 2024. The Certificate of Origin (CoC) is an essential document for claiming duty concessions under free trade agreements (FTAs) with various countries.
An exporter must submit a Certificate of Origin at the landing port of the importing country to claim duty concessions under FTAs. This certificate is crucial to prove the origin of their goods. Importing countries offer duty-related concessions only when they are satisfied with the origin of the goods. They grant duty concessions for products from specific countries.
According to a trade notice issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on Tuesday, the transition period for mandatory filing of applications for non-preferential certificates of origin through the e-CoO platform has been extended until December 31, 2024.
The DGFT stated in the trade notice that during this period, the existing systems of processing non-preferential certificate of origin applications in manual mode are permitted. Exporters and concerned agencies will have the option to use the online system, but the online application process will not be mandatory until December 31, 2024. In this interim period, the existing systems of processing non-preferential CoC applications in manual or paper mode are allowed.
