Deputy chief minister of India’s Karnataka D K Shivakumar recently unveiled the state’s Industrial Policy 2025-30 at the inaugural event of Invest Karnataka 2025 summit in Bengaluru. At the same event, state textiles commissioner K Jyothi said a Textile and Garment Policy 2025-30 will also be rolled out soon.

The Industrial Policy 2025-30 aims at turning the state into the top destination for high-technology manufacturing investments in Asia.

The policy focuses on equitable and sustainable development, targeting ₹7.5 lakh crore in investments and aiming to generate 20 lakh new jobs during by 2030, Shivakumar said.

A key objective is to ensure balanced growth across regions by promoting industrial development beyond Bengaluru, particularly in backward areas, he was cited as saying by a news agency.

The Industrial Policy classifies districts into three zones: zone-1 and zone-2 include industrially backward sub-districts and districts, which will receive differential incentives to encourage investments, state large and medium industries minister M B Patil said.

Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts fall under zone-3, which has a different incentive structure to ensure targeted support for industries in less developed areas, he explained.

Key sectors focused in the Industrial Policy include aerospace, textiles, warehousing and logistics, defence, electronics, core manufacturing, global capability centres, future mobility, green hydrogen, industrial robots, drones, augmented reality/virtual reality, medical technology, space technology, biotechnology, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, automobiles and capital goods.

It promotes sustainability by developing Green Industrial Areas and incentivising green initiatives by investors.

The planned Textile and Garment Policy 2025-30, which is at the draft level now, will offer more incentives for investors and scope for technical textiles. Two units of technical textiles are coming up, Jyothi said.

Another top official said the interests of traditional handloom weavers will be protected while setting up the PM Mitra textile park in Kalaburagi by providing a zone dedicated for artisans.

At the Invest Karnataka 2025 summit, the state’s textiles sector attracted about ₹150 crore worth investments. Big Bags International Ltd based in Mangaluru committed ₹100 crore to set up a technical textile unit.
