In October, food inflation went up to 12.56 per cent from 12.37 per cent a month earlier, while non-food inflation increased to 8.3 per cent from 7.82 per cent in September.
The consumer price index was up by 9.63 per cent in September.
The overall monthly inflation was close to double digits for the first time in the past decade.
The headline inflation in September was 9.63 per cent.
BBS data also showed that people in rural areas faced higher inflation than those in urban zones. The bureau recorded overall inflation in rural areas at 9.9 per cent in October, compared to 9.72 per cent in urban regions.
