Stating that Centre has set an ambitious target of 600 crore square meter of textiles and handloom next year, Union Minister for Textiles Shankersinh Vaghela called for improving the overall quality and output of textiles and handlooms.
Speaking at the inauguration of a cluster project for weavers at Chanderi near Guna, he said that this would be realised through joint efforts by government, through the National Textile Corporation (NTC) and other agencies.
Next year's textile and handloom production is set at 600 crore square meters as against 570 crore square meters this year, Vaghela added.
He informed the media that textile exports to the US reached 26 percent while it stood at 15 percent to Europe.
Centre believed in incorporating modern concepts in the rich traditional handloom products, he added.
When asked about closure of some textile mills, Vaghela pointed out that non had shut down during his term of office as the Union Textiles Minister.
