Recently, Taiwan authorities have imposed mandatory inspection system on different categories of textile products that are produced, sold in Taiwan, or imported into Taiwan.

Taiwan Bureau of Standards of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (BSMI) has imposed mandatory inspection system on different categories of textile products that are produced and sold in Taiwan or imported into Taiwan.

The inspection has been imposed on a variety of textile and apparel goods like apparels and clothing accessories for babies (24 months or height less than 86 cm), towels, sweaters, clothing, swimwear, hosiery and bedding.

After the implementation of the system, textiles exported to Taiwan will go through a number of requirements to pass the mandatory inspection system before entering into Taiwan market, including "CNS15290 textile safety standard (general requirements)", and commodity inspection identification on products, logo or other packaging materials.

Main tests of CNS15290 include: formaldehyde, AZO, lead, cadmium, organic tin compounds, etc. In addition, Taiwan authorities have prohibited retailers from selling textiles without the mandatory commodity inspection identification.
