REGP to generate 25L new jobs under tenth 5-year plan

Union Minister for Small Scale and Rural Industries, Mahabir Prasad inaugurating a state level exhibition organized by the Rural Employment Generation Program (REGP) under the tenth Five Year Plan, said that under the scheme, more than 28 lakhs unemployed youths would be provided assistance for earning their livelihood.

Prasad clarified that these youths would be helped under REGP through 209,705 small scale industries by March 31, 2006. They would be advanced margin money to establish their business with a sum of Rs 1372 crores earmarked for the same and become a source of employment for others.

Further, more than 25 lakh jobs will be provided under the same REGP.

He said that there were ample opportunities in the rural sector as well as small scale sector. The khadi industry is another avenue for jobs in the rural arena.

The job market in the public and the private sectors were highly competitive and increasingly difficult to land so they should turn towards rural sector.

Prasad said that in the age of Fashion Designing, the Khadi industry too, will have to transform itself according to changing times and will have to seek help from fashion institute for incorporating modern trends in their products.

He also said that the central government has come out with new plans to create more opportunities for employment and will be tabling a bill to this effect in the Parliament soon.

Union Minister of State for Home, Jaiswal and Uttar Pradesh Khadi Gramodhyog Minister, Pandey also expressed their views on the occasion.
