Textile engineers in Bangladesh have requested the Government to sanction adequate amount of funds in the forthcoming Budget for fiscal 2012-13 for establishment of coal-based power plants to resolve the power crisis being faced by the country's textile and garment sector.

Engineer M Maksudur Rahamn, President of the Institution of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ITET), Bangladesh, said the production in the country's readymade garment sector is being affected owing to shortage of power and gas situation.

He added that it is necessary to set up coal-based electricity generation plants to meet the current shortage in supply of power.

He advised the Government to begin projects aimed at production of power from wastes such as plastic bottle, rubber wastages and scrap tyres.
