peter mandelson, eu trade commissioner met china's textile negotiator gao hucheng in brussels to discuss the issue of textile sector's crisis, but there was no outcome of the talks.

chinese textile exports have surged eu and us market with cheap textile products since ending of multi fibre agreement (mfa) at the beginning of the year, which has resulted disruption in domestic market and massive job-losses.

the eu official stated that the chinese negotiator, gao would prolong his visit in brussels for more talks on wednesday, when the commission is to demand for formal consultations over t-shirt and flax yarn exports.

the eu executive is in charge of the 25-nation bloc's trade policy. member states gave the commission the green light on monday to start the emergency action against china.

to ease tensions china said it would raise export taxes on 74 categories textile products, however industry veterans have expressed uncertainty about whether it will make any difference.

the eu textile industry has appealed the commission to take immediate action to limit imports, with powerful pressure coming from france.

the re-imposition of textile quota would be on temporary basis by the end of this year to take safeguard measures.
