Uzbekistan govt invests in textile & garment projects

Uzbekistan Government has decided to earmark a considerable sum for implementation of several investment projects for development and upgradation of textile, garment and knitwear, enterprises in the country.
 
The Government has proposed to earmark US$ 97.471 million to aid implementation of 46 investment projects, which are expected to boost production of the targeted and other allied industries.
 
The projects are seen to boost production of cotton yarn by 2.9 times over 2011, that of cotton by 2.2 times, raw silk by 2.1 times, hosiery by 2.5 times, knitted fabrics by 2.3 times and silk fabrics by 2.6 times.
 
According to a Government order, to access the allocated funds, textile and garment and knitwear enterprises, included in the list of investment projects, need to ensure that at least half of their production is exported.
