Consultant to look into strategic shift of textile units

Pakistan's knitwear and bedwear industries had conducted a vist to Bangladesh and sought locational shift of thier industry to that country on the basis of incentives and benefits offered.

This has spurred Government of Bangladesh which is keen to learn about this strategic shift of textile factories from Pakistan to Bangladesh.

It has thus assigned Keith Stuart Smith, a UK-based textile consultant, to study and present motives behind this exodus of textile industry form Pakistan.

Bangladesh is one of the leading Least Developed Country as an exporter of readymade garments, apparels and textiles.

It is known for cheap labor and offering great incentives like low cost power and tax reliefs for overseas entrepreneurs in order to attract Foreign Direct Investments within the textiles sector.

Meanwhile, the Textile Ministry of Pakistan has adopted a studied silience over the issue and will soon provide suitable environment to local industry, according to reliable sources.
