Among the demands that have been raised by the newly constituted committee are revaluation of Turkish Lira at 2001 levels that has gained by as much as 78.5 percent since then against US dollar, stiff competition faced by local readywear exporters and heavy taxes which have led to closure of textile and clothing firms in the country are among other issues raise, according to the committee's spokesman, Jak Eskinazi, chairman of the Aegean Ready-wear Exporters Union. Over 1 million people have been rendered jobless and the industry is continuously on the decline. Eskinazi adds that if government did not take currency and tax issues seriously then the committee members would stage demonstrations.

He complained that authorities turned a deaf ear to their attempts to highlight their problems through reports and meeting.
