Textile manufacturers of Kancheepuram district can overcome the problems confronting them by going in for modernization, said H N Nagaraju, Director of Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner.

Modernization will reduce production cost and help to compete effectively in global market, said Nagaraju while talking to textile manufacturers.

The Textile industry is not any more restricted by quota system. Indian textile industry can now avail of this opportunity and increase its export, Nagaraju explained.

He observed that Indian textile industry's use of handlooms increased the cost of production, resulting into facing hardships in competing effectively abroad.

Modernisation of technology would bring down the cost of production and improve quality, he added.

Nagaraju said shuttleless powerlooms can produce in larger quantities within the specified period at reduced cost.

Central Government will support entrepreneurs to install powerlooms.

Handloom weavers will not be affected and can continue to have their own local market.
