Textile industry wants reforms in duty structure

Textile industry is not happy with the present duty structure and demands reduction.

Government should cut excise duty on synthetic fibre, polyester and acrylic fibre to 8 percent from the present 16 percent, said S P Oswal, Chairman, Vardhman Group.

The industry also requests govt to bring down duty in wool waste from the present 15 percent to 5 percent.

If government reduces duty, wool product makers, who consume 400 to 500 tons of wool waste every year, would be able to import cheaper raw material for production, said Ashok Jaidka, Chairman, Wool & Woollen Export Promotion Council.
