Members of Kanpur Trade Union Council (KTUC) will demonstrate protest supporting their demand to restart Elgin Mill (one) of British India Corporation (BIC) tomorrow.

They also plan to submit a memorandum to Governor.

The protest will be held at Patel Chowk.

As the BIC management has been inattentive to the problems of employees of the mill, council members organized a meeting at Elgin Mill (one) gate.

They also added that employees were confused following the different statements from the management.

Out of three closed mills of BIC at Kanpur, they are Elgin Mill (one), Elgin Mill (two) and Cawnpore Textile Mill.

In spite of all efforts by local BJP leaders during the NDA rule to restart one of the three mills, the proposal for its restart was sent to Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) where it is waiting for final approval.

Recently, Government of India published an advertisemtn in newspaper declaring that it intends to engage advisors for leasing out of two mills of BIC Limited through Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) route to private parties.
